Zombie Bolt Run 2014

Zombie Bolt Run - May 3, 2014 - DEAD WOODS ForestAbout This Event DEAD WOODS FOREST will once again be riddled with the staggering corpses of the undead as runners work to stay alive for 3.11 miles. Come join us for great family fun as all chaos breaks loose for the ZOMBIE BOLT. This time we’re including obstacles!

The Race Chances are, you’ve seen at least one good zombie movie where people are running to keep their brains. Join us for 3.1 grueling miles of undead smiles as you weave in and out of post-apocalyptic fury through DEAD WOODS FOREST in Luther, Oklahoma. The goal is simple: stay alive by keeping at least one of your flags until the end. This should be a bit easier with the new Regeneration Stations which are scattered across the obstacle course. You begin simply by making a decision, life or death. Do you choose to risk it all in the race as a live runner, dodging undead with cat-like agility? Or do you suit up with the inglorious brain-hungry heroes of the day as either a Limper, Wanderer or Bolter? There are winners on both sides but you must choose one.

You can brag to your fellow runners as to your inspiring agility, crazy speed and stealth cunning. Runners will wear flags and run the entire course. Zombies will get dressed up, made up and have the opportunity to either run most of the course and grab flags (Bolters), grab flags within a designated area only (Limpers), or just be on the course to watch the fun without caring about anything (Wanderers). Heck, even non-runners can enjoy this event!

Running for your life

Runners have one job…don’t get caught. You’ll be wearing two flags (think flag football) that represent your lives. Finish the race with either one flag intact to “stay alive”. Win the day with the lowest time while remaining “alive” and become “The Fastest Living Runner“! Yeah, I’m pretty sure no other race has a cool sounding, cheesy trophy like this. Be one of the first three men or women to finish alive and get a sweet trophy. The rest of us get the ABSOLUTE coolest medals I’ve ever seen for a race to remember it. Think like Daryl from the Walking Dead. Crazy cool!

This is an outdoor race through DEAD WOODS FOREST in Luther, OK. There are PLENTY of obstacles on the course and a few hills. Remember that it isn’t just the track, but the zombies chasing you on the track that make it tough. We will have a few Zombie-free zones on the path to give you a chance to rest and hit the Regeneration Stations to get some life back.

While it’s not going to be a beautiful day in Mr. Rogers neighborhood, it is rumored that he might make a presence. Won’t you be mine?

How to be a Zombie

Zombies

Of the three things you wanted to be when you grew up, we know the first…a zombie! Now thanks to an untimely bite on the arm, your wish has been granted! The choice is yours as to what kind of zombie you want to be.

How to be a Zombie!

Type I: The Wanderer

The Wanderer will wander around the course with little concern for runners. Consider it your audition for the next big zombie film!

  • You will stay on a specific part of the course the entire duration of the race.
  • You will not have to run ANY of the 3.11 mile course. Spend training time watching zombie flicks in preparation for your audition with a real Hollywood director (real Hollywood director not included)!

Type II: The Limper

For the slow at heart (and body), this is your ticket! Choose to be a Limper and you will be assigned to a section of the course. You can stand, limp, stagger, or just growl as long as you don’t run. Your job is to grab runner flags that are too close for comfort. As the saying goes, “Spare the flag, spoil the runner!” or something like that.

  • You will stay on the course the entire length of the race
  • You will not run ANY of the 3.11 mile course. Spend training time polishing off a round of donuts!
  • Grab flags, look scary, have fun!

Type III: The Bolter

The Bolter is the ultimate zombie. They will pursue the runners for most of the full 3.11 miles of the course.

  • You get to chase people without going into police custody.
  • You have free reign to terrorize any and all areas of the course (except the zombie-free zones).
  • Chase people, take flags. Crunch all you want, we’ll send more runners!
  • NOTICE: These runners aren’t going to eat themselves. Yeah, you probably should train a bit to catch the sneaky ones.

Supports Children's Hospital FoundationThe Big Day

Your job on race day is to show up wearing your zombie costume. Yes, you do need a costume. It can be typical zombie casual, or something totally crazy (or clowny). Have fun with it and be creative. After all, zombies don’t really exist so how can you do it wrong?

If you aren’t sure what a zombie looks (or might look) like, then go to the cloud and check out some great sites that can teach you. Being a fan of The Walking Dead, here’s one of my personal favorites.

Show up about 2-3 hours early and our professional (or semi-pro) artists will give you a bit of make-up treatment for that special moment. This time is first-come, first-serve so do NOT complain if you miss it by showing up too late. You’ve been warned!

Rumor is that some directors will be present to get some video of zombies in the forest. Those hanging out early enough will get a chance to immortalize themselves in films they will never see.

Let me start by saying that I had an amazing time and will be going back next year. My complaints:
There was not enough water to drink. I was in the 3rd wave and by the time I made it to the water stations they were out. Since it was so hot I has a hard time getting through the first half of the race because I had nothing to drink. Once we finally got to the first mud pit, I cooled down and had a much better time.
Some of the zombies were a little out of hand. I didn’t have any trouble but a friend of mine was pushed into a tree and a guy running ahead of me was punched in the stomach.
The woman at the registration table was kind of rude.
    Some mega positives:
This was the most fun I have ever had at a 5k.
The obstacles were difficult but not so hard that I had to skip them.
    The waterslide was a blast.

This was my first mud and zombie run and I had a blast!!! Everyone seemed to be in high spirits, friendly people. Try were out of medals but we gave our information to the staff to have them sent. This was a challenging course and I loved it! The price was very reasonable as well

  3. I LUV MUD

I have run off-road 5k’s and this course was by far the best looking course in the state. The warrior dash has nothing on this course! Also, ran the Dirty 30 (same location as last year) but this course is way better and closer than where the dirty 30 is now. Oh and it’s cheaper than just about all the other mud runs anywhere within 100 miles. For those of you that would like a medium to hard course and plenty of mud and obstacles, this is the one for you! Already asking the people at Zombie bolt wen the next one is! 5 stars for me!

  4. MUD RUN FREAK

I had an absolute BLAST!!!!!!!! Great Course they even had a huge muddy foam slide that reminded me of a frosty beer. great obstacles. Line was long because of a huge walk up participants. There was a gear check thank god. I thought it was well run. They are ordering more ears medals for folks who did not get one. I AM GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!!!!

We pre registered so we did not have to do it there. the line for day of registration was long but I don’t think you can blame the organizers for that. All of the organizers we dealt with, at early bird pickup and flag pickup were nothing but polite and helpful. We had no issues with over zealous zombies. Plenty of mud as opposed to mud runs we had done in the past. They had a table full of water and bananas free at the start so we carried bottles of water with us. The water stations could have been manned and better stocked but that is our only complaint if you can call it that. The obstacles were fun and challenging without being overly so. Yes they ran out of medals but I have been at other events where this happened or only winners get them. Overall I thought this to be a terrific fun experience that I would gladly do again.

YES MAYBE STATION ONE WAS OUT, BUT STATION 3 HAD WATER.. I HAVE BEEN TO OTHER RUNS WHERE THERE IS ONLY ONE STAION BUT THIS ONE HAD 3 AND SOME PEOPLE WOULD DRING LIKE 5 CUPS AT EACH STATION. I loved the Zombie Bolt yes it was there 1st MUD RUN AND HAD A FEW HICCUPS, but it was the BEST ONE I HAVE EVER DONE. You all are being way to critical. PLUS THE FOOD VENDOR HAD TONS OF DRINKS IF YOU REALLY WANTED ONE. THEY HAD TONS OF FREE WATER AND BANANAS AND SPECTATATORS WERE TAKING IT SHAME ON THEM..THE COURSE WAS AMAZING AND I WILL BE BACK. HAD A GREAT TIME AND BRINGING MORE NEXT RACE…
